Effect of anti-CD52 antibody alemtuzumab on ex-vivo culture of umbilical cord blood stem cells

BACKGROUND Excessive maturation of hematopoietic cells leads to a reduction of long-term proliferative capability during cord blood (CB) expansion. In this study, we report the effects of anit-CD52 (Alemtuzumab, Campath) on both short- and long-term ex vivo expansion of CB hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) by evaluating the potential role of Alemtuzumab in preserving the repopulating capability in...

Hypersensitivity reactions associated with fidaxomicin use.

We report hypersensitivity reactions associated with fidaxomicin, an antibacterial drug approved for the treatment of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. These reactions are viewed as significant because of severity and unexpected because fidaxomicin is minimally absorbed. The fidaxomicin labeling was revised to include information about the possibility of hypersensitivity reactions.

Long-term follow-up of symptomatic patients with lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma/Waldenström macroglobulinemia treated with the anti-CD52 monoclonal antibody alemtuzumab.

CD52 is expressed on malignant cells in lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL), including IgM-secreting Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM). We examined the activity of alemtuzumab in 28 symptomatic LPL (27 IgM and 1 IgA) patients. The median prior number of therapies for these patients was 2 (range, 0-5) and 43% had refractory disease. Patients received alemtuzumab at 30 mg IV 3 times weekly for up t...

Immune status following alemtuzumab treatment in human CD52 transgenic mice

Alemtuzumab is a monoclonal antibody against the CD52 antigen present at high levels on the surface of lymphocytes. While treatment of multiple sclerosis patients with alemtuzumab results in marked depletion of lymphocytes from the circulation, it has not been associated with a high incidence of serious infections. In a human CD52 transgenic mouse, alemtuzumab treatment showed minimal impact on...
